Indonesia, Ring of Volcanic Highlands . . .

High-Altitude Mist & Volcanic Roots: The Kamojang Terroir Story

Rooted in the volcanic highlands of West Java, the Kamojang area sits directly on a geothermal rift surrounded by active volcanic vents, lush pinewood forests, and perpetual mountain mist. Sitting at elevations typically between 1,400 to 1,700 meters above sea level, Kamojang benefits from dramatic diurnal temperature swings鈥攚arm, sunshine-filled mornings paired with cold, cloud-draped afternoons.

This thermal fluctuation slows down coffee cherry development, allowing sugars to concentrate deep within the seed while preserving crisp, bright organic acids.

What makes Kamojang鈥檚 cup profile unique is its balance of heirloom Indonesian lineages and high-yielding, complex hybrid varieties.

  • Andung Sari: A classic Indonesian selection derived from Catimor stock, refined for high altitudes. It acts as the backbone of Kamojang’s body, delivering a thick, silky mouthfeel, rich brown sugar sweetness, and deep cocoa undertones.

  • Linea S / S-795: Derived from Indian selections (including Kent and Liberica hybrid heritage), Linea S is famous throughout Java for its striking aromatic complexity. It injects bright stone fruit notes (think ripe peach and plum) paired with delicate floral jasmine aromas.

  • Sigararutang: Indonesia鈥檚 prized high-yield dwarf variety, contributing ripe tropical fruit, cane sugar sweetness, and a bright citrus pop.

  • Typica: The legendary heritage strain. Typica brings an elegant, clean structure, refined floral tones, and a tea-like clarity to the cup.

  • Caturra: A natural mutation of Bourbon that contributes vibrant citric acidity (lemon/lime zests) and a crisp finish.
